'Conserving the past for a creative future'

Restoration work in the dock

On the internal side of the dock, repoint and stitch repair has been carried out on either side of the steps. This work was urgently needed but it is obvious that all the dock wall would benefit from repointing. This would have to be done from a raft.

The sea wall corner on the south east end of the dock has been repaired. The corner on the north east end is in need of similar attention.

Wall rebuild

A wall adjoing the Chain Furnace in the Dock had become dangerous. This has now been re-built 'like for like' by 'Celtic Heritage'. They have done a splendid job!

The Forge

Re-roofing  has been carried out by Gareth Williams, an experienced local roofer

Buttress   The buttress at the corner of Shed 2 was in a collapsed state.  It has now been restored, the work being carried out by Celtic Heritage.  (Also pictured on the'Recent Achievements page'.

We are pleased that Gareth managed to purchase old chimney pots to match those on Boy's Quarters and Dock Cottage which are the two habitable cottages in the Dock area.

'Torching'  still needs to be carried out.
