Wildlife photographer

David Paton is an occasional visitor to the Fort and a Friend of Belan. His hobby is photography and he particularly enjoys taking photographs of wildlife, - very often at the crack of dawn!  He is kindly allowing some of the pictures which he has taken at Belan to be shown on this website.

Birds of the Foryd Bay & Dinas Dinlle

It may not be generally known by FOBA members that Belan has its own bi-lingual bird list.  In the mid-nineties, with the help of the ‘Wild Fowl and Wetlands Trust, Slimbridge’ & ‘The British Trust for Ornithology’,  local knowledgeable bird devotees compiled a list of over 200 birds which could then be seen on the peninsula.  It would be interesting to see how many of these can still be spotted in 2022. The list was revised in 2003 but is now, of course, completely out of date and in need of careful up-dating.

Help needed!  Would any keen bird lovers care to take on the task?

Local coastal nature reserves

Some time ago, we were lucky to be given copies of an attractive booklet published by the North Wales Coastal Conservation Partnership which gave details of all the local coastal nature reserves. It tells us that the intertidal and marine habitats of this area are as diverse as anywhere on the British coast!
